Hi.  I typically use the dynamic publishing variant of SWFObject; I'm not
sure how you generated your code, but I'm presuming it's the static
publishing method with the inclusion of the object tags and what not.

Regardless, for anyone trying to do a SWF publication, I would highly
recommend trying the content generation wizard at:

http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/wiki/generator

OK, public service announcement done.  As far as css goes, instead of
styling the object itself, I would suggest that you style the div
surrounding the object and see where that gets you?  I've never tried
styling object tags directly.

Post back if that doesn't get you anywhere.
