I replaced the flashvar with a string literal:
flashvars.parentXML = "String Literal";

and my .swf file is currently pulling from internal variables only
(not using the parentXML flashvar).

So the only thing that affects whether swfobject embeds my file or not
is that very first line (and it dies as soon as I add .innerHTML
or .toString() or .value)
