So as you correctly stated "The free downloadable JW FLV player uses the script swfobject.js " - the JW media player is a separate project which uses our library to embed their video player. They are just one the many people which utilise the swfobject library. They have just bundled in a specific version of the swfobject library for convenience to their users.
The official swfobject project page is where you should download the latest version of the library and view documentation / examples etc. Hope that clarifies things.
