Have you tried with a current version of JW Player?
According to JW the resizing is much improved in 4.xx.

I have a resize test page using v4.6 and SWFObject 2.2 which works
fine in Firefox, IE8, Opera 10, and Safari 4.
Just to see what would happen, I replaced v4.6 with v3.16,
and the resizing no longer works.

Any reason you are using the old version of JW Player?
