Thanks, Sam -- but I've discovered that the problem is not SWFObject.

Played locally, and simulating download I have no problems. But when
the SWF is uploaded to my server, the first of three externally loaded
swfs starts playing before the player is showing the video. It appears
that the opening SWF is starting somewhere in the middle -- I suspect
it is starting to play when it is done loading, prior to the other two
SWFs completing their loading. But Flash Player is not showing it
until all swfs are loaded.

I've tried using bulkloader with no success -- it's a head-
scratcher. . .
