Yes. There was a thread a couple of weeks ago on this list where the OP was having the same issue. Any time a swf and the applet overlapped, the applet rendered as white only in Safari 5.x. You already replied to that thread, and can see that the OP said it was a bug in Safari, so I think your question has already been answered...
