I'd say it has to do with your invalid DOM id for the replacement div you
are trying to wite to:

id="/~holland/sites/default/files/frontpageslideshow1"

According to the HTML 4.0 specs

ID and NAME tokens must begin with a letter ([A-Za-z]) and may be followed
by any number of letters, digits ([0-9]), hyphens ("-"), underscores ("_"),
colons (":"), and periods (".").

Basically, no spaces or special characters (certainly none that require
escaping) for id attributes. Just the 52 character alphabet, upper and lower
case, numerals 0-9, hyphens ("-"), underscores ("_"), colons (":"), and
periods (".")

@Nathan. The base param is what Flash uses for it's relative pathing when it
is loading a resource (image / xml etc). What the OP has should be fine...
