The easiest way I can think of to make the swf clickable across browsers if
you do not have the source file is to put a transparent gif (1x1 pixel
resized) on top of the swf via a div, and put the link on the image. Putting
an href directly on a <object> tag is not valid (hence it not working in
IE).

Make sure you set your swf param of wmode = opaque so that you can place a
image on top. Have a read of this tut to help you:
