Just wanted to give some followup here.  I tried compiling swftools
from the latest development snapshot, as well as re-building my entire
MacPorts tree from scratch.  In both cases I got the same segfaults.
This time I paid closer attention to the compilation, and noticed
*many* integer/pointer warnings, so I'm not terribly surprised by the
segfaults now.  :(

I installed Ubuntu (32-bit) into a VM and swftools runs just fine
there.  That's good enough for now...
