Check the config log carefully, then use, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto ( which appears to be the Ubuntu Package manager application ) to install them. If you have issues, cleaning out your config files first can help. Issung a 'ldconfig' can also help if some of the libraries don't get registered properly. If all works aok, then let us know. Maybe a page on the wiki noting successful installs, or not as the case may be, on certain distributions would be a good thing?
