very true — because for many proposals, there won't ever be any sort of proof 
for their effect (positive or negative).
Sometimes, there is general agreement that a change is a real improvement, but 
personal preference varies in dramatic ways.
In such situations, imho discussion doesn't make much sense, as the result will 
mostly depend on the preference of the core team (which, as it seems, isn't 
uniform as well ;-)
