Knowledge Base System Developer

You will work closely with a group of scientists to develop the Cognitive Atlas system (http://www.cognitiveatlas.org). This site will serve as a hub for community development of a knowledge base for cognitive science, and set a new standard as a model for medium-scale collaborative knowledge base development.

Major duties include:

- development of a highly usable front end for a semantic wiki system to allow researchers to annotate expert knowledge

- implementation of usability tests and supervision of usability testing performed by research assistants

- development of social collaborative methods for user interaction

- development of visualization tools for the knowledge base

- working with system administrator to optimize system performance

The right candidate will be interested in working on a challenging and potentially transformative project at the interface of informatics, collaborative knowledge building, and cognitive science. We are looking for someone who can exercise independence in determining appropriate technologies and methods to solve problems. They should be highly knowledgeable about web design, wikis, the semantic web, Web 2.0 technologies, usability testing, and knowledge base development. Some familiarity with cognitive science is also preferred.

Geographic location and time commitment are flexible; candidates outside of Los Angeles must be willing to travel to UCLA for regular meetings.
