What about selecting the whole text before editing it? This will enable you to
clear everything in case you want to overwrite it and will let you the be able
to press Esc if you do not want to alter it (would be much nicer than simply
setting the text to null or "").
Go for DefaultCellEditor to get further info (and remember: the
editorComponent will be a JTextField in most cases - check this if you want to
feel safe)
