Sorry for the delayed response on this. As another person has pointed
out, a major rewrite of the focus architecture is in the works for
1.4. Take a look at http://java.sun.com/products/jfc/tsc for an
article discussing all the relevant changes, including the focus
architecture. At least one of the above bugs, 4309079, is planned to
be fixed in 1.3.1 (an interm release before 1.4 that is in beta now).
