I would have thought you'd need to:

1) Subclass the list UI to override createMouseInputListener()
   to create a subclass of BasicListUI.MouseInputHandler that
   overrides mouseDragged.

2) Register the new UI with UIManager

How little code you can do this in is down to you.

I want all of my JLists to support "press and drag" multiple selection, so
users don't have to use the keyboard to get multiple items selected(which
SHOULD BE THE DEFAULT BEHAVIOR).

What's the least amount of code to allow doing this?
