Dialogs and modularity

Hi all -
I've got a dialog-related problem.
JOptionPane-dialogs are modular, so that no other windows can receive events
until the dialog window is closed.
Is there any (reasonably simple) way to create a dialog which blocks *only
its parent frame* (or something like that)?
