Swisscom besttigt Probleme mit Splittern und Microfiltern bei Speed-Update:

Dear BBCS customer

During the past couple of day's we have had a number issues with ADSL connections not running anymore after the migration from 600/100 to 1200/200 has been carried out. We are still analysing reason for the reported problems. We currently don't know the reason for the problems, however we would like to inform you about what we know so far and how to proceed in the meantime whilst we continue to investigate.

Actual status

It seems that splitters or filters are causing the problems. Mainly splitters (ISDN-Lines) seem to be affected.

Basically splitters and filters are passive elements.

We are not aware that any kind of electrical current could cause an issue with such an element.

Therefore a possible explanation of this phenomenon could be:

After the migration the modem has to synchronise to 1200/200 instead of 600/100.

An ADSL-connection (especially ISDN-lines) is distance sensitive.

The splitter, as well as the modem type may influence slightly the possible maximum bandwidth.

With 600/100 a splitter worked perfectly but with the bandwidth increase some splitters may just not be able to synchronise anymore.

This might be depending of the splitter type / version. - We currently can't see any tendencies. This means that the splitter is not really defective but just not able to cope with the doubled bandwidth.

Next steps:

We completed the migration process (600/100 --> 1200/200) on the DSLAMs today at 14h00

This means there is no risk that any more problems will occur from our side

Next on the migration schedule are the business profiles, this migration will not start before we know the reasons for the migration problems.

We continue our investigations and will keep you informed.

Feedback welcome

If you have similar problems with the migration, please report them to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (CC to your account manager) and supply the following details if possible:

phone number of the affected line

ISDN or POTS

type of modem

type of splitter / filter

Some ISP's report no problems at all. Some ISP's report just a few (1-3) cases. One particular ISP reported 50 cases.

We are thankful for the feedback helping us to quickly solve the issue.

Thanks for your collaboration

Best regards

Your BBCS Team

yours sincerely
