That is a good article.  It nicely summarizes the subject in one place.  Why it 
had to be published in a classified journal originally is mystifying as it 
contains only stuff that any specialist in RF communications should already 
know.  
 
When I was active in the industry, I had occasion to interview several recent 
BSEE graduates looking for work at a NASA facility.  I was shocked to learn 
that even in the early 1980's the universities had pretty well ignored teaching 
the material included in this article. at the BS level.  The curricula had gone 
digital even 3 decades ago.  So this article could serve as a good introduction 
to EE graduates on the art of receiver design.  The ham radio literature of 
that era also included some excellent articles - Google "Ulrich Rhode".
