Blaine, to get this discussion back on track to it's original purpose, I
too have had problems with "the person from Academia"-----I reported it
to Rich and John (the Fest organisers) and they handled it to my
satisfaction. This involved a very ugly comment that was made to me a
week after my husband passed away-I had made the decision to come to the
Fest, although I had discussion with Rich and John as I recall that I
may cancel. My MIL was here and we decided the best thing for us was to
get out of this house for a week and that is what we decided to do.

One has to remember the Fest is an all volunteer situation. Right at the
first day, it is emphasised that if an attendee has *any* problem (i.e.
with the hotel, registration, or any other Fest-related concern) that it
is to be brought to their attention. Any issues with raffle tickets :)
are something I can handle.

It's been a "family reunion" atmosphere-over the years some people have
stopped coming for various reasons (mostly health or they have passed
away.) But we have welcomed new folks too-and the issues that have
cropped up have been few and far between. I would have suggested to the
gentleman that had issues for him to bring it up to a Fest organiser-I
guarantee it would have been handled promptly instead of letting it
"fester" to the point we are having this discussion now.

Albeit I did wait a number of years (out of embarrassment) before I
brought up the comments that were made to me, I am satisfied about how
things were handled.

Everyone is welcome at the Fest-and I encourage everyone to come, it's a
good time and a break from the dreary winter!
