My ham radio "Elmer"(though I've been a ham since 1953 I still need an "Elmer"
since I'm just returning to active hamming) asked me the question below, and I
know many of you will have suggestions for him. If you do, we'd certainly
appreciate your opinions. Please e-mail my friend Carl N3ZZK directly at
[email protected], with a CC to me([email protected]) so I'll know he's getting
response(s). Or post to the list if you think your comments will be of general
interest, and I'll forward to Carl.

Thanks very much!

Carl's question:

I do have a question about scanners which I hope to can help me with. I am
looking for a scanner for our local townwatch group that will pickup Philly
Police radio. They have narrow banded their frequency so the scanner I have
now doesn't pick them up. Need one that is not to hard to operate since there
will be people that are not radio knowledgeable using it. The last time I was
at the scanner convention Tony Pazzola from NY had a Uniden "Home Patrol #1",
it looked easy to operate. Can you or anyone of your friend send me in a
direction on make and model of a scanner. I have been on the site "Bearcat
Warehouse", but not sure which one will work here in Philly.
