Hello All!
After being away for a couple years, I'm happy to say I will
be attending the SWL festivities again this year. For those
who recall me, I look forward to seeing you again. And I
look forward to meeting new friends, and perhaps discussing
the state of hotel pizza in 2014.
Other than sending out a general greeting, I have two other
reasons for writing. For one, I plan to bring a substantial
receiver to the swap meet this year, and thought I should
send out a head's up as it's not an insignificant item.
A year ago I purchased an Icom R-75 on Craigslist for a good
price. And what I've learned since is that the RF noise in
my urban location and my inability to mount an antenna
outdoors has severely limited the amount of use and
enjoyment I've gotten from this thing. And as it was a big
purchase (for me) I'd like to simply get my money back and
pass this fine radio along to someone who can make better
use of it.
It's in perfect shape. Comes with a big sturdy Pelican case.
$475 firm. That's what I paid for it. I've looked around,
that's still a great price.
That said, if one of you has some tempting to swap for the
Icom, I'm game to listen and consider. I'm more interested
in vintage portables than anything, and especially have a
spot for old analog radios with digital displays. Always
curious about the E1 as well, or an antenna that might work
gangbusters INSIDE the house. But in general, cash would
probably be best.
I guess I'd rather have a sure thing instead of looking for
a sale at the hotel. If anyone coming to the fest is certain
they want the Icom at that price, i will take the first
offer via email and let everyone know it's sold.
My other reason for writing is that I've decided I'd like to
purchase an AM Transmitter for home use. However, the one I
would like (and most of the ones that are available new)
comes as a kit. And after a number of unfortunate attempts,
I know better than to try to build a kit myself. Just ask my
tenth grade electronics teacher.
I'd like to offer anyone willing fifty dollars to build a
transmitter for me. I think there's probably still enough
time for me to have it shipped to someone and for them to
have it built within the month, in time for the fest.
It's the SSTran AMT 3000 AM Transmitter.

I thought fifty dollars is reasonable, if anything thinks it
isn't, let me know.
So, that's it. I hope to hear from at least one or two of
you regarding what I've talked about here. And please send
along any questions. And I am looking forward to the fest!
Thanks
-michael
