Hm, took a look at that second one. It's tooled up for 9 MHz but you'll notice 
that a lot of New England (including the extreme north of Maine - I actually 
live a fair bit north of Sheldon - hi, Sheldon!) is in the low to no signal 
contour.

Assuming a reasonable similarity in radiation pattern at 7 MHz I'd say that'd 
account for the very wishy-washy signal I was seeing (in between feeding the 
huskies and dodging the Polar bears that are moving southwards)...
