Oh, I agree that an overt U.S. propaganda outlet would further harm American credibility abroad, but I believe that's the way we're headed under the incoming administration in response to RT and other state media. Watching what happens with all this and listening to the resulting state media products should be interesting, regardless.

We don't need an RT, IMO. That is precisely the wrong direction this should go, but that the majority on the pertinent congressional committees seem to want to pursue -- a pro-American propaganda outlet. The only result there would be further loss of credibility.

Maybe a President Trump, who arguably has more direct experience in broadcast media than any previous U.S. President (Ronald Reagan not withstanding), will appoint an International Broadcasting CEO to develop a media network similar to RT (Russia Today) to play catch-up with his pal Putin. RT has been a very successful propaganda outlet.

I can envision a President Trump wanting to be a regular face on such international broadcasts. He's very media-savvy and loves the spotlight.

Maybe Dan Robinson or Kim Elliott would be interested in doing an SWLfest talk talk about U.S. state media in a Trump administration. (If they'd dare ;-)

I was unaware until seeing a story on RT tonight that the US' BBG may be on life support. Tucked into a defense spending bill is a provision that the Broadcasting Board of Governors would be transformed into a CEO position reporting to the President.

I've long thought the BBG lost its way with multiple "voices" and administrative units. From my external view of government efficiency ☺ I always thought one voice (the VOA) could better serve the world in a coordinated, cohesive fashion. If this change comes to pass, perhaps sanity will prevail.
