Perhaps it would be helpful if specific instructions are posted here and on swlfest.com for exactly how to make reservations to ensure the event gets the badly needed credit for those reservations. And clarify if such reservations include a breakfast ticket.

The pared-down breakfast options offered by the hotel in recent years (no more custom omelets!) may have decreased the incentive for people to pay a higher price for SWLfest-sanctioned reservations than they can buy through an aggregator (or alligator) such as Hotwire / Expedia / Google / Hotels.com / Booking.com / etc.

John's metaphor of the balloon is appropriate - if we don't meet our
hotel room commitment, it would cost us more for the forum / silent
auction / registration & exhibit space, which would necessitate a
higher registration fee.

This used to be much easier before the days of online reservations and
Hotwire / Expedia / Google / Hotels.com / Booking.com...
