Thanks to Rich, John and all organizers.  I think it's a huge accomplishment
to have undertaken this and surely discussions will continue about how to
keep us all together, active and participating in FESTs in years to come after we put COVID behind us.  Echoing John's comments, it is truly extraordinary to have so many talented individuals involved -- and the fact that we were able
to ZOOM with Rob Wagner and others overseas underscores the usefulness of
this platform.  Integrating it into future in-person FESTs is definitely something that we need to work on, while maintaining a goal of physical meetings as long as they are possible (and affordable).  My presentation will be available in pdf format and anyone who has questions about any aspect of it, don't hesitate to
contact me.

Hi -

For me, probably the most significant sign that this ?virtual? Fest was not
really all that virtual at all is that little tinge of sadness and melancholy I
usually feel at the end of each year?s edition. It was there again as I hit
the ?leave? button on ZOOM at around 1:30 this morning.

But the most prominent emotion is joy ? joy at watching so very talented and
committed people talk to us in the forums about the things that excite them
about radio; joy at seeing people we have come to know as good friends in a
familiar place that sounds and feels like an annual reunion; joy in knowing
that I am with those for whom radio is as interwoven into their lives as it is
mine.

It was all there this time too, which proves it matters little how or where we
meet. It just matters that we make sure we do meet, somehow and somewhere..

So I want to thank my good friend Rich for the smooth and seamless way he dove
into the ZOOM environment and made it work for us. I want to thank Sheldon for
his excellent suggestions along the way and for always finding a way to step
up, help and improve things as we plan and conduct the Fest. I want to thank
Rich D?Angelo for maintaining his enthusiasm for the idea of conducting this
event on ZOOM helping me overcome my own skepticism. I want to thank every
Forum presenter ? Tom, Skip, Larry, David, Bill, Thomas and Mark ? for the way
they excelled in using the platform to provide us with a fascinating, diverse
program. And I want to thank Harold, Kris and especially Bob for coming up
with this greatest of ideas and leaving us with a format and spirit that I now
believe can last 135 years, let alone 35.

Finally, I want to thank all of you for being such an important part of it all
? really the crucial part. For it?s your friendship and support that drives
and inspires us every time we do this.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

John

Hi John, nice to be included this year. About 3 years ago, I had made
reservations and paid for attendance at that years SWL FEST in Plymouth
Meeting. That year I also scheduled a stop in Mt Holly N.J., down the
road , to meet some Paternal family members for the FIRST TIME in 72
years! I was adopted...( Thank You Ancestry DNA ?). Wow 2 things on my
Bucket List fulfilled in one trip! Sadly, I had to cancel that trip and
the 2 Bucket List items due to medical reasons ?). I appreciated the
understanding from the SWL Fest and a the refund. Plus, I was sent best
wishes over the WRMI radio broadcast during the Fest...so thoughtful of you
all.

Well, I jumped at this virtual opportunity to attend a fest! I
struggled through the Zoom experience OK.......sort of. On a side note,
when I got up Saturday morning I went to the Hospitality room on my I Pad
immediately. As a Zoom rookie, I did not know my audio was on as I heard a
voice calling out my name. It was Sheldon telling me my audio was on.
Panicsville, I didn?t know how to shut it off !! Sheldon shut it off for
me. Sheldon explained how to turn my camera on also. Thank goodness, the
camera wasn?t on also as I was making coffee and breakfast in my underwear
while watching on my I Pad. My ? boxers or briefs? secret remained safe
from the SWL FEST! ? ?????.

What a FANTASTIC experience the FEST was John !

Please do Hybrid Fests in the future. Much more should be charged for
future Fests than $5 for sure! Showing the virtual aspect of future Fests
on large screens at the site could contribute to the blending of the
Virtual with the Actual ? Just a suggestion....... 73?s. Ron

P.S. Even took the Fest on my I Phone when I took my bike rides between
events. It was 87 degrees and sunny here in Florida ???. After my sweat
soaked tricycle bike rides, I made sure not to watch any of the Fest in the
bathroom just in case the camera got turned on accidentally while I
showered ?. Lol, lol

Hello,

Thanks to all for making this a great virtual fest!

The late session yesterday reminded me of the early one day fests, where
the attendees stayed in the hospitality suite to the early hours of the
morning. I would sleep a little later in the morning and drive home
pumped up with coffee. Even though some did not have a long drive home
this year, I missed some of the rituals of the homeward bound travel,
like the stop at the Morristown Dinner for lunch. There are other travel
traditions I missed, like the stop at Rein's on the way down. In a
normal year, I would need to get my car fixed quickly, or rent, to go
down to the Big Pencil. My brother is coming down today to help fix my car.

I learned about new stuff, like every fest. It is interesting to see
what others are doing, like using a O Cedar mop handle for support of a
loop. I immediately ordered one so I can build a more portable loop for
the next fest. I also found out about two premium receiver Facebook
groups from Dan Robinson. I have a couple of premium receivers that I
have brought to the listening lounge. I look forward to helping Dan next
year.

I think the talks about how to get into basic amateur radio are very
important. I got a great deal on a like new Super Antenna MP1DXMax. It
was returned to HRO by a new ham who could not make it work. Some items
were still in their original packaging. I wanted to buy one to play with
after hearing about it from ham friends and the review by OH8STN.
https://oh8stn.org/super-antenna-mpd1xmax/

It is a lot better to start in Ham Radio with a 100 watt radio and basic
antenna like Skip detailed. I plan to experiment with an antenna type
that Skip mentioned at my home station. Palomar Engineers has all kinds
of interesting antenna and RFI stuff. They have a lot of application
information on their website. This is the antenna I purchased to put up
in Spring.

Thomas and other IC-705 users may want to look at the IC-705 Carry Cage
by Peovi Mounts.

It was interesting to see the various radios. Several attendees fondly
remember the Panasonic RF-2200. I still have my very beat up one. I had
the Yaesu FRG-7700 for awhile instead of the FRG-7. I still have the
Sony ICF-2010, AOR 8600Mk2, Yaesu FT-817, Kinetics SBS-1, and several
other radios.
