Thanks for organizing this. Sorry I couldn't make it, I decided to leave
early, and it turned out to be a good thing I did.

On Sunday at 1:00pm, SWL Festers have a rare opportunity to get a
free private museum tour of a collection of one hundred incredibly
beautiful antique Catalin radios--in Philadelphia, only a half-hour
drive from SWL Fest hotel. (Some of us share could share
transportation, or SEPTA can get you there in less than an hour.)
If you don't know, Catalin is a 1920's thermosetting polymer made in
brilliant colors that was used by many table radio manufacturers for
exotic radio cabinets in the
20'-30's-40's.

The Keen Collection of Outsider Art is a world-class private museum
that's not open to the general public. Its owner, philanthropist
Victor Keen, is generously allowing SWL Festers to ogle his amazing
radio collection, which is probably valued in the six figures. It is
curated by Victor Keen, who I met in his museum months ago and
proposed a private tour of his radio collection by our group of
knowledgeable radio enthusiasts. He was receptive to the idea, and he
has arranged for one of his staffers, Tom, come in on Sunday to show
us the collection.
This could be be your once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see such a
unique and beautiful radio collection. Photographs ARE
permitted! There's other interesting collections of objects in the
museum you should check out while there (browse the website for more
info.) The Keen Collection of Outsider Art is located at 1527
Brandywine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130. Street parking shouldn't
be a problem on Sunday on Brandywine Street, or on Spring Garden
Street one block away. There's several inexpensive dining options
around the corner should any of us want to grab lunch afterwards
before heading home.
It would be best if everyone can be at the door at 1:00 sharp when
we'll be welcomed inside, because the door is kept locked for
security reasons and there'll only be one staffer there to show us
around. I don't want him to have keep running to the open the locked
door for stragglers while he's inside showing us the
collection. We'll be trusted guests at a private museum that's not
open to the general public.
If you have any questions, please email me off-list or see me during
the 'Fest, where I'll make an announcement and show pictures of this
radio collection on the big screen in the conference room.
I hope you can take advantage of this unique opportunity to see this
amazing collection of beautiful antique radios. I was astounded when I saw it!
Cheers,
-Ed Cummings
