This is from a local radio club but the topic is very unusual and relevant to all hams.  We all talk about the technical aspects of preparing for a communications emergency but what about dealing with the people who are directly affected… even isolated?

Read on.  The zoom accessed meeting information is below and you are invited to the presentation tonight, Wednesday Oct-22. Details below.

You may have heard of Thomas Whitherspoon, K4SWL  from the Ham Radio Workbench <https://cnharc.us21.list-manage.com/track/click?u=566d340f5dffe6812f3465610&id=aaa62c0945&e=70b4e0650c> podcast and QRPer.com <https://cnharc.us21.list-manage.com/track/click?u=566d340f5dffe6812f3465610&id=d7784de67d&e=70b4e0650c>.   What you may not know was that Thomas and his very isolated, rural western NC community were caught in the middle of Hurricane Helene’s fury.  His neighbors were truely isolated with no commercial power and roads that were impossibly covered by many downed trees.  One neighbor even required a helpcopter Medivac.   Ham radio played an obvious role but the more interesting part was how the community banded together, each family with special skills that ranged from heavy equipment mechanics, welders, cooks, and even Diesel fuel poachers.  And ham radio. Thomas gave this presentation at the Marlborough, MA HamExpo and this will be a slightly shortened version to allow enough time for live member Q&A.

You will find that Thomas is a very giving person who is truly dedicated to his family and his community.  Ham radio is just one of his many tools.

How do resources get in and out?
