Hi everyone - hope you all have been well. I received an inquiry in my NASWA HQ Email inbox from someone who is researching AFRTS schedule information from 1979 -- looking specifically for anything connected to a Paul Harvey News & Commentary airing from the era.
She's already researched the NASWA archives and has reached out elsewhere to the SWL community; I also suggested she reach out to ABC Audio -- the successor to ABC Radio which produced and aired Paul Harvey back in the day. If anyone has any other guidance, please contact Ms. Cormier directly -- her contact information is shown below. Thanks -- Richard Cuff ------------------------------------------------ -------- Original Message -------- Subject: November 1979 FRENDX / AFRTS schedule question: Paul Harvey exact airtime and frequencies Date: 08/29/2026 08:30 From: Jessica Cormier <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Hello NASWA, I am researching a lost Paul Harvey broadcast from November 7–9, 1979 for a private family-history project, and NASWA's historical FRENDX archive has already been invaluable. I am trying to settle one narrow technical question rather than infer the November schedule from adjacent months. A February 1979 FRENDX report, describing AFRTS changes effective January 1, lists Paul Harvey at 1711 and 2111 GMT. The August 1979 FRENDX Shortwave Center mentions "Paul Harvey, News and Commentary" at about 2100 GMT on 17765, 15430, 15330, and 11790 kHz. By February 1980, a published program guide shows Paul Harvey at 1711–1722 on 15430/15330/11805 and 2111–2122 on 17765/15430/15330. What I still need is the actual AFRTS schedule in force on Wednesday Nov. 7 through Friday Nov. 9, 1979. Would someone familiar with the old FRENDX/Update files be willing to check: • the November 1979 FRENDX issue for AFRTS schedule/frequency changes, • any October/November 1979 Update or Flash Sheet supplements, • any Review of International Broadcasting or program-guide material retained by NASWA contributors, • and, if available, member loggings from early November 1979 that identify the Harvey feed by exact UTC time and frequency? I am especially wondering whether AFRTS made a seasonal frequency change around the first Sunday in November 1979. If so, an August frequency list may no longer be valid for Nov. 7–9. The target recording concerns someone whom they wish to keep anonymous and the family remembers a Paul Harvey item about him. We are already pursuing NARA's AFRTS holdings and have a public request circulating through the shortwave-listening community. At this stage, even an exact contemporary schedule citation would materially improve the tape search. If NASWA has a member or former editor who specialized in AFRTS schedules in 1979, a referral would also be greatly appreciated. Please keep the surviving family member anonymous in any public/member-wide inquiry. Thank you very much, Jessica Cormier _______________________________________________ Swlfest mailing list [email protected] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/swlfest To unsubscribe: Send an E-mail to [email protected]?subject=unsubscribe, or visit the URL shown above.
