Not sure if I agree with this point of view. I have both XM and Sirius and
find that most of what I like is on Sirius (as you said). However, the real
issue is the competitive marketplace. You have Ipods, Cell Phones with
content downloads, Clear Channel/regular radio, High Definition radio and
Satellite radio. I think what XM/Sirius are trying to do is to get a large
enough market base of subscribers that they can go against the others. Not
sure how this will turn out but I do find it interesting that Clear Channel
can pickup all the stations, use its premiere radio networks group to make
all the programming (Rush, Dr Laura, Coast to Coast, etc). And Rupert
Murdock can also consolidate but nothing is said. If Sirius merges and
keeps doing what they are doing it will be a clear choice for content that
you will never get on Clear Channel. Part of the issue with XM is they are
partially controlled by Clear Channel. Anyway, I hope that Sirius stays
around in some form merged or alone to give me something to listen to while
Rush Limbaugh is being echoed on multiple stations across the dial. Now
that is Clear Channel choice. I can choose which channel to listen to Rush
on. :-)
