The radios on the right are a Gonset communicator and the matching amp. The
meter in the middle is a Triplett 310. CRAIG

As a Hammarlund and Drake fan, I have "freeze-framed" it to take a closer look
at the rigs and I even typed up a message to send out on the list, but I did it
just before the Fest and I figured no one would see it because everyone (except
me :-( would be going to the Fest. Here is what I typed: There is a Diet
Mountain Dew commercial where it is thundering and lighting. All of the scenes
take place outside, in the rain and thunder and lightning. There are two women
fencing, a women sitting in front of a table with radios on it and a tower
behind (outside, in the rain) and two women walking about on tall, aluminum
stilts.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> A man holding a can of Diet
Mountain Dew asked the first two women, “What are you doing?” They reply,
“Fencing.” Then he asks the woman at the table of radios the same question.
She says, “Playing with my ham radios.” If you freeze-frame it, you can see
that on the left side of the table, one of the receivers is a Hammarlund HQ-170
or HQ-180 and the woman is sitting in front of it, so you can't tell which for
sure. On top of it is a radio in the Drake R-4 family. You might think it
would be a Drake transmitter (T-4X, T4XB, etc.) to go with the receiver, but on
the table beside the Hammarlund is a Drake MS-4 speaker. There is something
on top of the MS-4 and beside the MS-4 are some radios or maybe test equipment.
They might be homebrew, but I didn't recognize them. In front of the setup is
a Shure 444 microphone. I didn't see a code key, so obviously she is an
"appliance operator." :-) Remember, this is outside. Behind the radio table is
a tower (probably 10Â’ high) and around the radio table are other antennas and
things as might be put there by someone who wants a "radio look" more than
something appropriate (this IS TV and this IS a commercial.) He asks her,
“Aren’t you afraid of being struck by lightning. As he says this, HE is
struck by lightning. The commercial continues in this strange way to try to get
people to drink Mountain Dew. But I love to see shortwave radios on TV,
especially ones that I own. The key to watch for if it is coming on is two
women fencing in the rain, thunder and lightning. I didn't know it was on
YouTube, but it has been shown several times during the TV Show, Terminator:
The Sarah Connor Chronicles." 73,Curt W4CPCurt Phillips, CEM CMVP

Can anyone identify the equipment in use? The receiver on the left looks like
Hamarlund HQ-170 or 180 but the rest ?? Kudos to whomever gets it. CRAIG
