Hi Peter,

This should be possible. See:

 -
http://sword-app.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/sword-app/spec/tags/sword-2.0/SWORDProfile.html?revision=377#protocoloperations_editingcontent

Rather than having to pass the existing handle, it is related to the URL which
you use to update the item.

The question though is how this is implemented in DSpace. Richard Jones who
wrote the current implementation would be best to answer this, but my
recollection is that the default out-the-box implementation is that updates and
deletes are only allowed while an item is in the workflow. Once it has passed
into the archive, it is locked from further SWORD interaction. One of the
manager classes controls this, but I can't remember which and don't have a copy
of the code with me at the moment.

I hope that helps a little!

Thanks,

Stuart

For our university repository we would like to use Sword for ingesting
scientific publication for all our researchers. But we also need a mechanism
for updating existing items.
It should be as simple as when a DSpace handle is supplied within the metadata
of the deposit package it should not create a new handle but it should use the
handle supplied within the metadata.

Is this functionality already available within Dspace Sword? If not it seems to
me just a minor change that would be helpful to many other users of Dspace
Sword.

Kind regards,
