Or, to read this another way, if you're an _administrator_ instead of a 
user, compiling should be no problem. Users of the dolly-bird-secretary 
or rough-n-tough-farmhand variety shouldn't need to know. "Just because 
you can" is not the same as "you should".

If you're insisting on compiling stuff for philosophical reasons, you 
might want to consider switching to something more hair-shirt like 
OpenBSD. And even they have a packaging system.
