Possibly make more of a contrasting color scheme. The top menus are a muted blue on a blue background.
I agree. It would be good if those menu items acted as tabs and the tab for the page you are on would be different from the rest. See how Google does it, http://www.google.com/ . Also take a look at http://www.blueletterbible.org/ and see how the menu on the left always lets you know where you are on the site.
The borders on the buttons don't show up well. The "Go" buttons could be a little wider. Maybe rename them "Search".
A little wider and less flat if possible. I don't know if renaming would be better. "Go" is common, almost expected. The buttons and fields for reference and phrase at http://www.blueletterbible.org/ look good, but they take up a lot space.
I had to actually click on the "ADD YOUR TEXT HERE" button to know it was a button.
That definitely needs to be fixed.
To me the "Open Scriptural information standard" logo seems out of place. It doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the page.
It covers some of the menu items if the window is not full screen (1024x768). The first to go is "help" - not good.
On pages like, passagestudy.jsp, the Translations and Commentaries lists are very long. Could they be put in a scrollable box?
On the page, preferences.jsp, when you first go there and have no preferences, "Click to remove. Reselect on the side to move to the top," is as clear as mud. Yet, that is all you are instructed to do. After selecting a few items it becomes clear. The bar/line on the left below Translations could be a text block that says "click a translation below to add it." Likewise, replace the bar below Commentaries. BTW: it has "Comentaries" with one "m".
It may also be good to place a small statement on the page explaining how the preferences are used by the system, and why I should take the time to select preferences.
