Hi all,
I wonder if what your opinions are on the texts of other faiths? Any objections to modifying SWORD so that it's useful to a wider audience?
I'm curious whether your question isn't primarily academic.
As Troy points out, Sword already possesses the facilities to present any hierarchically aranged work. All you would need to do is create an OSIS format document (http://www.bibletechnologies.net), run it through our xml2gbs converter, and create an appropriate .conf file. (Basically, see http://www.crosswire.org/sword/develop/swordmodule/index.jsp.) Topically or indexically keyed works could use the lexicon/dictionary driver instead.
The only real addition that would benefit non-biblical works would be addition of linking facilities, but this is essentially a front-end issue rather than an engine issue. And it would certainly be of benefit to the project as a whole to have such a facility.
Unless there's some issue that completely escapes me, I can't forsee any need for a fork (from our perspective).
