I think we should really just let STEP die. I don't see us ever supporting it and its supporters are going out of business or changing to other formats rapidly. It was never our responsibility to pick of the slack for a defunct standards body, incapable of supporting its own work.

A Google search turns up some postings to this or other lists about the
format but doesn't find the specs themselves. I know the specs used to be
somewhere on www.crosswire.org because I downloaded them. So did the
specification get moved/deleted/forgotten?
