Hi Jónatas.
The problem with MacSword is that it is not so easy to add new
features and enhance the application.
I've spend many many hours over the last one and a half years to
cleanup the code. Actually a lot under the hood has been done and
some bugs have been fixed.
After the compiler flag -Wall has been turned on, over 500 compiler
warnings were across the whole code and over 300 of them have been
fixed. To be honest I can't continue with MacSword, it is just boring.
I want a clean and good design and clean code, this is not possible
anymore with MacSword.
The new application uses Cocoa bindings where possible and also will
be able to show images, maps, animations and has easier text
rendering. All types of books should be creatable by the user.
I'm also thinking of a iTunes/Numbers/Pages style like GUI design
which is state of the art of Mac applications.
Minimum requirement should be Mac OSX Tiger.
Just to give you an overview of what I and maybe also the others have
in mind.

Hi Manfred,
I'm very pleased to hear that something new is being started for
the Mac. I hope you can reunite a good workgroup. I doubt I can
help building the app because I'm not a programmer. But I can
certainly help with testing.
I've used MacSword for 3 years now and I'd love to see it evolve,
but I'm very concerned about it being almost dead for a while now
(I mean it hasn't been evolving).
Yours,
Jónatas Ferreira

Hi.
I want to starting a new frontend on the Mac platform and would
like to invite everyone who is willing to help.
From UI developers to icon designers everyone is welcome to
participate.
Please write to my email address if you are interested.
The MacSword application has gotten quite old by the time. It
still has Jaguar support which is fine but now that Leopard is
coming, the time is right to start something new with new features
and new technologies.
Some things like the Sword backend and the SearchKit search/
indexing stuff can be taken from MacSword.
The backend has been cleaned up to make it KVO kompliant.
Additionally a new backend wrapper to Sword InstallMgr has been
created and is working.
Best regards,
Manfred
