One possible path would be to use JSword. This is a Java implementation of 
SWORD. The advantage is that it works on all platforms without having to 
compile the SWORD C code for each.

If you decide to explore this route, I (and some others) can help you with how 
to use JSword. The mailing list jsword-devel would be more appropriate for 
discussing this.
