Actually there is a point: In the opinion of some leading lawyers at least, the GPL includes a patent license (implicit in GPLv2, explicit in GPLv3), while the MIT X11 licenses are seen as *only* copyright licenses that don't protect you from being beaten over the head with patents even by entities that have distribuited the software.
