This (Peter's) idea sounds really good to me. Changing the footer or sending out reminder emails wouldn't have any effect, I would guess. I think people just ignore those as noise. (I do.)

How about a filter in the mailserver which does not allow and bounce all
emails to sword-devel with "sword-support" in the subject line.

There is little legitimate reason for having this in the subject line
and it would stop all forwarding dead (and I have done this too).

The reason I did it was accidental as I did not pay enough attention
when wrote the address by hand and wanted to exclude the initial poster.
The autofiller in my mail client did the rest. I am sure many others
will have similarly been careless rather than malicious.

How about changing the footer on the mailing list e-mails to reflect this?

It might be worth being proactive, rather that reactive, about this,
since you indicate that it seems to be more than a one-time issue.

Perhaps you/we could set up a monthly sword-support FAQ email, that is
sent from a cron job on the first of the month to sword-support, and
which includes this kind of information? We could also check that the
welcome email people get when they subscribe to sword-support clearly
     includes this info.
