Hi Sam, Good to hear you are interested in playing around with the source code. I'm not sure if anyone else has replied to you yet, so I will quickly reply to give a few pointers?
Take a look around the http://crosswire.org/wiki/Main_Page wiki, specifically the top right section on Development Tools. That talks about the SWORD engine & the code to do with it. You'll see the page on Tutorial:Compiling & Installing SWORD & it has download instructions from SVN & stuff. Use of an IDE is a personal preference. If you're on Windows, some ppl use some IDE that I have no idea about. My experience of compiling and playing has been Mac only for the last 10 or so years, altho I used to play around with the code prior to that on Debian, but don't ask me any questions about it! my memory isn't that good... :P Hopefully that gives you a start? Perhaps have a look at swmgr.h and start there? Actually, a better place would be after you have downloaded the source, take a look in the examples folder. That will give you a quick intro to what does what, and to some things you can do. :) I hope that helps? Thanks, ybic nic... :) On 30/12/2011, at 1:44 PM, William first name wrote: > hi. i've looked around and read a fair amount about theSwordProject. > > From what I am aware the main source code project is a c++ Project and other > bible software such as bibledesktop are java projects which are built ontop > of it). > I am interested in the main c++ project at the moment. > > Can someone inform me of the best place to download the whole project, and > which IDE the source file is suited to import it into (code::blocks or VS or > a linux only IDE)? > secondly can some one suggest a few classes that would be good for a new > developer to play with to get a feel of the project. i'd like a hands on > approach to understanding the software, and realize this is a fairly general > question.
