I figured it out, one should have a working module (unencrypted and uncompressed) with the relevant .conf file.
Then run mod2zmod and then rename or remove the unencrypted and uncompressed module and that .conf file. Six files are created in the output folder though. When I open the module in Xiphos or The SWORD project, it is empty.
