I too had wondered about type="study", but after reading the same section of the OSIS User Manual, I came to conclusion that we could live with that.
type="translation" is NOT what we want for most modules! Those are internal communications between translation team members. (as if, beyond all likelihood, they'd be using OSIS rather than Paratext).
