Webcasters have long claimed the playing field in rights fees was unfair -- they had to pay copyright fees for the music they air, whereas regular ol' radio stations do not. The logic had been that radio stations were good for artists because they exposed artists' works to prospective buyers, and, thus, radio stations were exempt from these fees. If the bill cited below becomes law, then radio stations will be on the hook for these fees as well. Given the current decrepit financial state of most radio stations, this might push some station owners even more towards bankruptcy.
