Excellent article here about the 95th anniversary of the first transatlantic 
shortwave reception between Greenwich, Connecticut, and Scotland 

The ARRL, Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB), and the Radio Club of America 
(RCA), partnered in sponsoring the activity. The Greenwich Historical Society 
also participated.

Its is considered that the successful test back in 1921 proved that world-wide 
communication could be achieved using short wave.
