You have two choices: Download the source of the current mysqldb and install it manually, or upgrade to 6.10 (or 7.04) and use python-mysqldb from the ubuntu distribution (i.e., install it using apt-get).
As for how to upgrade, see this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EdgyUpgrades The command is apt-get dist-upgrade but it's not quite that simple. If you're running it on a workstation with a GUI, there's a simple GUI that will do it for you.
