I am glad to announce that the internationally renowned cultural theorist *Eric Gans* will be visiting the University of Sydney as part of the 2008 Philosophy of Religion Seminar Series.

Eric Gans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Gans) is Professor of French at UCLA and the author of ground-breaking books such as /The Origin of Language/ (University of California Press, 1981), /Originary Thinking: Elements of Generative Anthropology/ (Stanford UP, 1993), and /The Scenic Imagination/ (Stanford UP, 2008). Gans is a world leader in the field of cultural theory and his work on the origin of language is seminal both in the US and abroad. His most original and significant contribution is the discussion of the history of human culture as a genetic or 'generative' development of the origin of language.

Eric Gans will be Visiting Professor in the School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry. His visit has been made possible through the contribution of SLC, SLAM, SSPS, The Faculty of Arts, The University of Sydney; and the University of Western Sydney.

In three speaking events to be held 1-11 November, Eric Gans will explore his 'generative anthropology' in conjunction with philosophy and religion:
