Wed 05 Aug 2009. Four areas of confusion in ethics. (Matthew Hammerton)

In this talk I will consider four popular ideas about ethics and diagnose each as based on a philosophical confusion. These ideas are: moral absolutism, the is-ought thesis, the naturalistic fallacy, and moral relativism. In each case I argue that popular opinion is mistaken in granting the idea a certain significance or status in moral thinking.
