Conference Overview

One of the fundamental aims of the AAPAE is to create a forum for
representatives of the professions to meet and discuss ethical issues
pertinent to their practice. It is about applied and professional ethics
and this is the core theme of the conference.

To facilitate achieving this objective, professional and academic
streams have been organised for the presentation of papers at the
conference, including but not restricted to, the following themes:

*       Bioethics,
*       Moral Philosophy,
*       Political Philosophy,
*       Public Policy,
*       Media Ethics,
*       Police Ethics, and
*       Business Ethics

There is an opportunity to add to these topics if a number of papers are
submitted exploring issues pertinent to a profession or theme [please
contact the conference convenor for details].

Papers

We welcome all newcomers and encourage papers / research endeavours to
be presented. We also provide a stepping stone to publication in the
AJPAE if you wish to pursue peer reviewed publication with the formal
journal of the AAPAE. Presenting at the conference provides you with
feedback and critique of the work presented which can then shape a
better submission for the peer review to take place.

The conference will have both a refereed and a non-refereed stream

* Refereed track papers are to be submitted consistent with
Australian Journal of Professional and Applied Ethics author guidelines.
Abstracts and full papers from the refereed track will be published in a
Conference Proceedings CD. Authors should submit a short biography of
no more than 100 words and an abstract of no more than 200 words with
their paper. Papers for this track must be no more than 5000 words, and
should be submitted to the Conference Convenor by 9th April 2010. An
invitation to submit the manuscript to the AJPAE will follow after
proceedings of the conference.

* Non-refereed track papers should be proposed by way of an
abstract of approx. 250 words to the Conference Convenor by 9th April
2010. Presenters in this category could clarify that their paper is
intended for the non-refereed stream in the Subject line in the email
submission of their abstract.

Workshops

Innovative workshops have been introduced to the conference program this
year, introducing new approaches to either: (a) Teaching ethics or (b)
Ethical leadership. Submissions for this category on either of these
topics should include a 1-2 page discussion of the proposed
demonstration. Include content and goals; format (e.g., demonstration of
teaching materials, role play); target audience; and value of your
presentation for teaching ethics or ethical leadership. The deadline for
submission to this category is 9th April 2010.

Author's Sessions

Another exciting addition to our program is: "A Session with an Author"
where authors are encouraged to submit their book/s on professional and
applied ethics for group discussion and/or review over lunch or a
dedicated time slot. Submissions for this session may be made by an
author or others for a session which critically evaluates a recent book
in practical or professional ethics. The proposal can be in the form of
a panel, including formal papers or a roundtable discussion. The
submission should indicate the title of the book and date of publication
as well as all the panelists if applicable. A copy of the book must be
submitted for review.

Authors may also propose a "Lunch with an Author" session. Books must be
related to the Association's interests and goals, and published within
the last two years. Please submit three copies of a 1-2 page description
of your book, and supply a copy of your book. Annual Meeting attendees
will have the opportunity to sign up to attend Lunch with an Author with
the author of their choice on allocated days. Please note that authors
pay for their own meals.

The deadline for submission of a proposal for a book review in either
category [Session with an Author or Lunch with an Author] is 9th April,
2010.
