Apologies for the last-minute notice (it's been that kind of week). There will
be a meeting TOMORROW (6.30pm, Wednesday 13 October 2010), on Catherine
Millet's book, "The sexual life of Catherine M".

"This is the most explicit book about sex ever written by a woman, though it is
far from pornographic. Catherine Millet sets about coolly and rationally
exploring her insatiable appetites" -- Edmund White

"Catherine Millet refuses to serve up a social morality tale -- her is the
revenge of sex on politics. For her, autobiography seems to be a tale of living
-- quite literally -- in the body." -- Bookforum

Says the blurb: "Written in spare, elegant prose, The Sexual Life of Catherine
M is the autobiography of a well-known Parisian art critic... [T]here is no
guilt in Millet's narrative, no chronicles of use and abuse: on the contrary,
she has no regrets about a life of energetic sexual activity. Catherine
Millet's writing is a subtle reflection on the boundaries of art and life and
she uses her insights on the role of the body in modern art to set the scene
for her multiple sexual encounters."

6.30pm, Wednesday 13 October 2010 (normally every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the
month)

We'll start just after 6.30pm, and continue till 8pm-8.30pm. Format is usually:
short speech, then two or three rounds of discussion, with breaks in-between.
Often we'll go to dinner afterwards. Participants are welcome to come or to
leave at any point during the evening.

Incidentally, anyone is welcome to present on any topic related to philosophy
(just let me know, and I'll book you in).

No cost. No reading required beforehand. All welcome!

Location: members bar, floor 1 (keep winding up to the top of the stairs), The
Gaelic Club, 64 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills, Sydney (100 metres from a
Central railway station exit). We'll be armed with the Oxford Companion to
Philosophy and a bell. Usually we meet ***out on the terrace*** (or ask at the
bar if you're not sure). Usually a small group -- half a dozen to a dozen
people sitting in a circle.

Hope to see you there!

Adrian
