Title: Helen Stasa
Hedonism and Desire
"Theories of well-being attempt to answer the question of what it means for
a life to be prudentially good, or good for the person living the life.
Following Derek Parfit, I will argue that such theories can be classified
into three broad groupings- hedonic theories, desire-fulfilment theories
and objective list theories. I will explain that all three views have major
flaws, which leaves the well-being theorist in a difficult position. I will
then examine some of the strategies which the theorist may use to respond
to this, and argue in favour of a pluralist view."
